O duminica frumoasa in continuare!

Portrait charcoal drawing

Yesterday I tried another drawing technique to be able to shorten the drawing time. It is also one of the most difficult method that is used by artists with long practice, which is not my case :)

I was afraid I will completely mess up everything, but finally, I managed to finish the drawing within 3 hours. Of course with some mistakes, that will be corrected, probably, after I will make over 100 drawings like this one.

First, I draw the grey tones all over using vine charcoal. Then, I start directly to draw without any measurement, everything being checked by eye. It was faster until I get to hair which I draw it several times and actually took me more than a 1/3 of the time.

Some info related to materials used: A4 watercolor paper 200 gr, vine charcoal, charcoal pencils (hard, soft and ultra soft), graphite technical pencil, blending stumb and a lot of patience :)

I will also need to find a way to scan better the drawings as all of them seem harsh after scanning compare to live ones.

The Smoking Man

I have dedicated few hours again to pencil drawing. This was done yesterday on a A4 200 gr. watercolor paper, with graphite & charcoal and took me about 3 and a half hours. The most difficult part, as always for this step of my skills development, is the initial part, where all the proportions and main elements of the drawing are defined. Hope you will like it.

Back to school - cont.

So, I have decided to take the chance, following the Iris's advice too and made another drawing.

Meanwhile, I have start to read books and other drawing materials that can help me to improve my drawings. This one I've made it yesterday, took me good hours and it's also in mixed graphite & charcoal on A3 standard drawing book. Because I have no A3 scanner I have to use my camera to copy.

Back to school

Two years ago I have restart to draw after more than 35 years of break. It was happened in the same period, in September, the month I was born. Then again, last two years up know, I did not touch the pencils. I don't know what cosmic force push me into this direction. Again! In the same period. Maybe, I should follow the signs and do what I like to do, despite the fact that seem too late.

I am an engineer, doing exact things in my professional life, but still I am more and more attracted by art: photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.

The drawing below, I made it yesterday afternoon. I used compress charcoal, graphite pencils HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, rubber on a 160gr smooth paper. Hope you will like my 100% untrained, uneducated amateur work.
